BELLY DANCING AT SESCIL
September 2008

Belly dancing and all the movements that go with it are ideal for women who are so-called "Seniors".  It is a very ancient folkloric dance. The movements are consistent with those of childbirth, and it has always been the place of the older women to instruct the younger ones. The movements themselves are mostly circular and spiral.  There is not a part of the body from the head to the toes which is not used.  Much of each class is spent learning to use arms beautifully and gracefully.  Belly dancing has nothing much to do with the "Belly".  The true beauty of it lies in its freedom. It also allows for improvisation and self-expression.  The true difficulty is in saying to oneself, "these are natural movements of my body, and I can do them in time."
