STERLING "VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON"
The gathering on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at SESCIL represented "the cream of the crop" of its Volunteers, who deserved to be honored by the rest of SESCIL's members for the selfless devotion they'd shown to their particular activity at the Center during the past year. After the speeches of Assistant Director (and MC for the event) Frieda Wells, the Chairman of the Board, Joe DeGuilmo, and Executive Director Ed Barsuk, much appreciation was lavished on longtime Volunteer-cum-Administrative Assistant Virginia Chaney for her preparation and donation of the excellent repast that awaited those present.
After everyone had tasted the various delicacies, sandwiches and side dishes on the over laden tables, the Volunteers were treated to a smorgasbord of songs by the SESCIL Singers with Ella Urdang at the piano. Click this hotlink to hear a sampling of the opening song "Good News" along with its accompanying video. (Remember to turn up the volume of your computer, so that you can hear the performance of the group's rendition of a popular piece clearly.)
The party culminated in the distribution of a mug to each Volunteer that read:
100 Years from Now...
...it will not matter
what my bank account
was, the type of house
I lived in, or the kind of
car I drove, but the world
may be different because
I was a VOLUNTEER.
